Eresos, Lesvos: the picturesque birthplace of Sappho the Lesbian | Greec...

Welcome to #Lesvos and specifically to the beautiful #Eresos, a special village in #Greece. Eresos is the #birthplace of the #ancient #poet #Sappho the #Lesbian. Wonderful sea waters, #quality #food, #relaxation and #culture in the birthplace of the "10th #Muse". A #travel #destination that brings together #visitors of all kinds! #Video Chapters: 00:01 intro 01:10 Skala Eresos 06:00 Eresos beach 08:25 Eresos village 09:01 #maps Eresos and its harbor, #Skala Eresos, are places that have been inhabited since ancient times. From here was #Theophrastus, one of the 7 #sages of antiquity. Eresso was also (probably) the birthplace of Sappho Lesbia, the great #lyric poet of antiquity who praised love (and) between #women and who gave birth to a global term for #homosexual love (lesbian). The poet whom #Plato described as the "10th muse". This is one of the reasons - more of a reason - that Skala Eresos has been attracting for decades #gay women from all over the world who come here for #summer #vacations, while in #September the Eresos Women's #Festival is an important event. This year's will be held from September 10 to 24. In Eresos you will not see mass #tourism but you will see #travelers of all kinds. Families who choose it for the beautiful beach and affordable accommodation. But also "alternatives", young people, people looking for #meditation holidays thanks to the #Osho Afroz Meditation #Serendipity #Center and - as in #Lesbos in general - friends of good food. It is so developed in terms of infrastructure that you don't miss anything, but in a vintage way that recalls more relaxed times of the Greek summer. It is no coincidence that one of the few summer cinemas in the Greek islands still operates in Skala Eresou. #Cine Sappho (no surprise about the name). We don't need to say much about the endless #beach of Skala Eresou. It is more than 3 kilometers long. Its central part is the most organized, as we go to the right we encounter less people and a #nudist beach. Like its sand, its waters are quite dark, but don't let that fool you. They are spotlessly clean and quite cold, an ideal source of coolness on the days of even the worst heat. Its waters are deep enough, for those who prefer to be in the water from their towel in a few seconds, it is the best possible choice. #Sights A walk in the #village of Eresos is worth it to admire the #traditional #architecture and the beautiful square. The small #archaeological #museum in Skala has in its collection findings from the classical, #Hellenistic and #Roman periods. There is also archaeological interest in the Vigla hill where the #acropolis of ancient Eresos was. There are preserved pieces of pre-Hellenic walls, a small Roman tank and ruins of medieval turrets. On the left side of the beach, where there is a small harbor and the chapel of Panayouda, a series of modern #sculptures inspired by Sappho have been placed. These are works by important Greek sculptors, such as Thodoros Papagiannis, Giorgos Chouliaras, Kyriakos Rokos and Loukas Loukidis, which were created in the context of a sculpture #symposium that took place in the summer of 2006 in Eresos. Another example of the harmonious coexistence of the ancient, the traditional, the modern and the different in this rather underrated corner of the #Aegean. Food - #Drink We have to say that in general the food on Lesbos far exceeds the average, having the additional advantage of very good prices. As an example only, we recommend the Aegean for those looking for home-style cooking and a wonderful view. In Soulatso you will eat fresh fish and seafood. You will also have a nice fish meal and ouzo drink at #Sardellas, which really knows how to cook fish properly, small and large. Sam's Winery in the village of Eresou is the choice for those who love it as here the flavors are traditional Greek but also Middle Eastern, thanks to the Lebanese owner. Finally, for a drink, the timeless choice is #Parasol, a beach bar with #Caribbean decoration and #atmosphere in Skala. Do not neglect to visit it, even if you are in Eresos only for a bath. It is now almost an attraction of the island. And since you're here, try the #cocktail that looks like a mojito but has boiled figs instead of sugar. Nearby #excursions The picturesque #Molyvos is probably the most famous tourist #destination of Lesvos. What you should definitely not miss and which is not more than half an hour from Eresos is the Petrified Forest in #Sigri and its museum. The second largest #Petrified #Forest in the world (after that of Arizona, USA) is a spectacle of unique beauty created by volcanic activity 20 million years ago and in itself a reason to make Lesvos unforgettable.

Olympus: the divine home of Gods - Myths and exotic places in Greece

Olympus, Greece: divine secrets - mystic experiences and exotic places. Why did Ancient Greeks believe that Olympus mountain was the Home of Gods? #Olympus #Greece #exoticplaces In the eastern #Mediterranean there is an #impressive #mountain that stands sole and proud and seems to have sprouted through the #sea! Its peak is the highest in the #Greek #peninsula. Olympus mountain enchanted the humans so much that they were deeply convinced that #Gods lived up there. We are in the land of #Macedonia! At the foot of this #Divine mountain, which apart from being a National Park has been declared by #UNESCO as a "World Natural #Heritage #Monument", lies #Litochoro, in the prefecture of #Pieria! With a population of over seven thousand #inhabitants, Litochoro will drive you crazy with its beauties but also with its many contrasts. What are we waiting for, let our #tour begin! Every time I visit Litochoro, the first thing I do is run streight to the Municipal 3Park. Green and welcoming, it will offer you an unforgettable #image #frame: a #jet of water and Olympus standing proud and #irresistible as a background! Nearby the #Maritime #Museum of Litochoro. And yet in this #beautiful #winter #destination the inhabitants were always dedicated to the sea with the majority being #sailors. From this park start mountain #running #races with international fame like Olympus #Marathon and hundrends participating. Do not miss the municipal #gallery and the memorial monument. The walk continues to the main square. #Traditional stone buildings and the glorious #church of Agios Nikolaos dominate the scenery. From here begins your wandering in the #labyrinthine #alleys of the settlement. Traditional #guesthouses and #hotels. Crystal clear fountains, Churches and schools that take you back in time. Places with breathtaking views. You will find that in addition to its countless #picturesque corners, Litochoro has a lot of #hangouts for #food or coffee. Irresistible flavors, unforgettable hospitality and absolutely reasonable prices. Some taverns are by the river, #Enipeas. From the Restaurant the Mills begins a wonderful route to the #gorge and the words here no value compared to this landscape. Outside Litochoro and next to the Motorway is the Alexandrio Foundation with the imposing building and the Statue of the great Macedonian #King #Alexander. Do not forget to visit the Holy #Monastery of Agios Dionysios in Olympus, northwest of Litochoro. At an altitude of 850 meters lies the old monastery founded in 1542. And the breathtaking Holy #Cave. While the New Monastery of #AgiosDionysios was built about three kilometers from Litochoro when the old one was destroyed. #Dion was the holy city of the Macedonians in Ancient Greece. Here the hoe brought to light the existence of a brilliant civilization and one of the most important Macedonian cities, through the findings of the #Archaeological Park of Dion, and next to it you may visit the Ancient #Theater, where during the Olympus #Festival, the ancient tragedy is revived. To the south the visitor will see the #Castle of #Platamonas, one of the most beautiful and best preserved castles in Greece, which dates back to the Frankish era. During your stay in the shadow of Olympus, take advantage of the opportunity to get to know this sacred place better. Horse riding, hiking and mountaineering, climbing and mountain biking are just a few options. Breathe the air of this magical mountain: rivers and pedestals, #waterfalls and wild virgin nature, rare species of flora and #herbs. As for the local products, these will be a high quality memory of your trip. Pieria #truffle, #honey, tea and the famous Olympus #oregano, chestnut traditional dessert, jams, wine and grappa from arbutus. And now here are the top #beaches. Variko. Gritsa. Gremia.
