Sifnos: the most
delicious Greek island
The Greek island
of Sifnos in the Cyclades has the most sizzling food scene in the
#Mediterranean right now.
On most Greek
islands, what hits you first is the light, bouncing off burnished rocks or painting
the horizon a fuzzy peach. On wildly beautiful Sifnos in the Cyclades, it's the
aroma of orange-and-anise biscuits drifting down whitewashed lanes; pockets of
sage and oregano in wind-chiselled valleys; blasts of brine as sea urchins are
prised open, orange roe scooped up with salty fingers.
In summer,
stepping off the #ferry at Kamares, the island's unassuming little port, there
is also the unmistakable perfume of sizzling calamari and suntan oil. If it is
early afternoon, I stroll along the hot boardwalk to the sandy beach of Agia
#Marina and dive straight into the sea. The octopus bruschetta and aubergine
chips at the #Isalos beach bar taste even better when I have sand between my
toes. As a lilac haze settles over the bay, I toast my return to the island
with a cucumber #Margarita.
Sifnos, the
island of flavours. Unique traditional villages, organized or #secluded
beaches, and 227 churches spread around the island are waiting to be
discovered.
A few kilometers
away from the town lies the traditional settlement of #Artemónas, famous for
its neoclassic mansions and its outstanding panoramic view of the island. Some
of the most famous restaurants and patisseries of Sifnos will welcome you here
with fresh homemade cookies and hot doughnuts. If you need to spend a relaxing
vacation, then Artemónas is the ideal place to book your accommodation.
Kastro
The historic
settlement of Kástro (meaning “castle”), inhabited since ancient times, is
built over the ruins of ancient Sífnos, on an abrupt rock with a breathtaking
view of the sea. A beautiful outdoor museum and one of the most picturesque
villages in the island, Kástro stands out for its old houses with the wooden
balconies, the ancient columns and the narrow courtyards.
The visitor still
enters the village from "lozies", the castle’s old entrances. In the
past, these arcade-like entrances were used as war towers in order to protect
the settlement. The houses in the front, built one next to another, used to be
inhabited by lower class people, whereas the inner, and more protected part of
the settlement was occupied by the upper class. Admire the picturesque little
church of “Eftamártyros” (Church of Seven Martyrs), perched on a rock that
seems to rise from the sea, and don’t forget to visit the Archaeological
#Museum.
Swim in
crystal-clear waters.
Whether cosmopolitan or secluded, all the
beaches in Sífnos offer to the sun-loving tourists azure waters and
sun-drenched sandy beaches. Kamáres, the port of the island, is a sandy beach
with trees and beach bars; Platís Yialós is the most cosmopolitan and buzzing
beach in the island, whereas next to it lies Vathí, a sandy beach with shallow
waters and many tavernas where you can enjoy fresh fish. The rocks in
Chrisopigí, where also the homonymous Monastery proudly stands, are ideal for
diving. If you’d like to rest
under a cool shade, head to the next beach which is surrounded by salt water
loving trees. If you find yourself in Kástro, follow down the path to “Eptá
Mártyres”, and enjoy a leisurely swim.
When the harmony of nature seems like a

The mountainous topography of this Greek
province and the sparse rural population made the word Arcadia evolve into a poetic meaning. A
version of paradise, though only in the sense that it is the abode of
supernatural beings and not an afterlife for mortals.
During the Renaissance, #Arcadia was a popular artistic subject, both
in the visual arts and in literature, and this name came to be used for any
idyllic location or paradise.
Our tour starts from the village of Agios Ioannis.
It is built amphitheatrically on the slopes of the mountain at an altitude of 725 meters. It has many
churches and traditional fountains.
While exploring the alleys of the
settlement you will immediately feel serenity and the feeling of intimacy, as
if you have walked here again. Around you traditional buildings, hospitable
guesthouses, taverns with delicious flavors, plane trees and flowers.
Saint John of Arcadia or Agios Ioannis is
mentioned for the first time in 1435, while its contribution to the Greek
revolution of 1821 was significant.
A huge surprise awaits you three kilometers
south of the settlement! The double #waterfalls of Lepida. Protected area on MountParnon

ARCADIA (Arkadhía), the heartland province of the Peloponnese, contains
some of the most beautiful landscapes in Greece. Dramatic hills are crowned
by a string of medieval towns, and the occasional Classical antiquity.
Beautiful Karítena is a picture-postcard hill town, but the best area of all is
around Stemnítsa and Dhimitsána, where walkers are rewarded with the luxuriant
Loúsios Gorge. Another hill town, Andhrítsena, attracts archeology buffs with
the nearby Temple
of Bassae, still
spectacular though tented for restoration. En route, if approaching from
Trípoli, you may also pass through Megalópoli, both mainly transport hubs.
North of Megalópoli, the best of Arcadia lies before you:
minor roads that curl through a series of lush valleys and below the area’s
most exquisite medieval hill towns. The obvious first stop is lofty Karítena.
Then the route to the northwest winds farther up around the edge of the Ménalo
mountains to the delightful towns of Stemnítsa and Dhimitsána, from either of
which you can explore the Loúsios Gorge, including the remote site of ancient
Gortys and the stunning eleventh-century Ayíou Ioánnou Prodhrómou Monastery
(commonly abbreviated to Prodhrómou), as well as additional ancient monasteries
on up the gorge. To the west there’s the hill town of Andhrítsena and nearby
the ancient Temple
of Bassae. Having your
own transport is pretty essential here, though there are limited buses from
Trípoli and Megalópoli. The hill towns also offer plenty of great places to
stay.

We start from the beautiful island of #Crete. To the west, stands the colorful old town of

1.5 hour east of Thessaloniki lies meet #Kavala. A raw diamond
of Greek Macedonia. Amphitheatrically built, it offers unparalleled views and

Attractions à Serres
Amphipolis, une ancienne ville macédonienne majestueuse à l'embouchure de la rivière Strymon. Alexandre le Grand est-il enterré ici? La récente découverte archéologique de la tombe de Kastas a choqué le public du monde entier. Sphinx et cariatides, chambres funéraires cachées, mystère, catastrophes et mosaïques ornées. Dès le début du XXe siècle, la découverte du Lion d'Amphipolis, une statue majestueuse, témoignait que quelque chose d'important, de taille royale, existait dans la région. Peut-être que le fait que le lion n'a pas de langue suggère que nous ne connaîtrons peut-être jamais la vraie vérité ...
Au musée archéologique d'Amphipolis, vous pouvez voir une multitude d'expositions et bientôt le tombeau macédonien sur la colline de Kasta sera ouvert au public.
Lac Kerkini. L'une des zones humides les plus importantes d'Europe. Les oiseaux migrateurs rares, les buffles et la nature riche créent une expérience unique pour le visiteur. When walking to the #Magic#Forest, everything seems to be different. Time stops and a unique experience begins. It is surrounded by large hills and snow white #mountains, so you are in a small #valley with #river between these hills.
After you notice most of the details around you, you begin to feel as if you are in a #fairy#tale. The #scenery in the Magic Forest allows you to pretend that you are in a place where you could actually see an elf or fairy. It is all part of the magic of this place.
The surroundings, sense of #adventure, and our #imagination always drew us to this part of the #woods. It made us feel like we were no longer in the real #world.
When you step through the #trees, all you can see is green. The whole ground is covered in #grass that is long and bright green. Some rocks are completely covered in soft, fuzzy, #green#moss. The moss makes everything look as soft as cotton. Next, you start to notice the #wildflowers and other plants. The #flowers are pink, purple, white, and many other #colors. Some are as large as your hand. The huge #mushrooms catch your attention next. There are many different kinds. The mushrooms grow all over the place, on tree trunks, on the rocks, and everywhere else possible.
Then, you start to notice the #light. It #filters through the outreaching tree branches to the forest floor. It leaves shifting patterns on the floor due to the ever-moving leaves on the branches, alternately making everything either bright or #hidden in shadows. The light gives everything a constantly moving effect, as though nothing is ever standing still.
While looking up at the light, you notice that the branches over-head are very close together. They are woven together almost like fabric. The branches form one huge canopy over the top of this magical spot.
You begin to hear the #sounds of forest. First, in the #silence, you hear the wind #whispering through the trees. This is also when you notice the slight breeze on your cheeks. The leaves, rustling against each other, create a #calming sound.
Then, you begin to hear the sounds in the background. You can hear the cows mooing. You can hear the different pitches and volumes of their voices. It is almost as though you can understand them.
Next, you hear the #birds singing in the trees. Some songs are high-pitched and fast-paced, while others are slow and mournful. When you lean back your head and look into the trees, you can see these birds. So, you can hear their #song, which sounds very sad and lonely. You see a rainbow of colors, from red to blue.
Then you begin to hear the leaves and grass, on the ground, rustling. This is the sound of all the forest creatures scampering away into their hiding places. However, if you wait a while, without moving, you will begin to hear them rustling around again. If your imagination is working, it sounds as though there are fairies or elves trying to hide from you, instead of the animals that live there. You may even get lucky enough to catch a peek of a rabbit or #deer. Often, however, you find yourself waiting for a mystical being, instead of a real animal. It is still a neat experience to see a wild animal up close, even if you do end up wishing that it would have been an elf or a fairy.
While standing in the Magic Forest, several different #aromas surround you. The most distinct is the sweet smell of freshly cut hay. Then, you begin to notice the #earthy#smell coming from the ground. Finally, you can pick out the scent of the wildflowers that are growing all around you. Most of the flowers are sweet smelling, but some have their own unique scent.
While #wandering around the magical forest, you may begin to touch things. First, you might feel the tree trunks. They are rough and hard. Then, you may decide to see what the mushrooms feel like. They feel dry and spongy. Next would come the huge rocks; these are smooth, cold, and moist. While exploring the rocks, you may feel the moss that grows thick on them. This moss is very soft and fuzzy. It is also cold and moist.

#3 Finland: Rovaniemi. It is the Official Hometown of Santa Claus, and the city’s most famous resident can be visited every day of the year in Santa Claus Village right on the Arctic Circle, an attraction that draws more than 500 000 annual visitors from all around the world. Santa Claus Village is open every day, and getting there is easy. If you want to see Santa right after landing in Rovaniemi, you’ll be glad to know he’s only three kilometres away from the airport.

* The mood: Have you noticed how everyone is just so much happier? It could be due to the endless supply of mince pies in the office, the fact that everyone is slowly winding down, or the promise of an open bar at the annual Christmas party. But it’s probably due to all of the Christmas magic.
* Food! Not only can you stop caring about calorie counting, but you can also stop caring about how much you spend on your food shop. Why? Because it’s Christmas and of course you can spend £10 on a mountain of profiteroles. In fact, it would be rude not to.
* Christmas menus Yes you love your regular coffee fix, and it is the highlight of your morning, but what’s even better is getting your coffee fix from the special limited edition festive menu. Suddenly everything becomes extra tasty due to the addition of cinnamon, gingerbread and salted caramel to everything.
* Booze! Thanks to Christmas it now becomes acceptable to knock back a few sherries with your nan at 1pm on a Sunday afternoon while sitting in your pyjamas and watching a Doctor Who Christmas special. In fact, you enjoy it so much you contemplate quitting your job, moving in with your nan and turning this into a full time thing.
* Potential snow: Part of the fun of Christmas is engaging in long, complex discussions with anyone and everyone about the possibility of it being a white Christmas. It most likely won’t happen, but by the end of December you’ve learnt a LOT about cloud formations and arctic winds.

* Movies After being silently judged all year for spending all your evenings and weekends bingewatching shows on Netflix, it’s now the time for your bingewatching lifestyle to actually be appreciated. Christmas is the best time to binge on all of the amazing movies that will be on TV. You’ve already circled in the TV guide when "Elf" and "Home Alone" will be on you and have your blanky at the ready.
* Chocolate overload Basically this is the only time of the year when you can have an entire Terry’s Chocolate Orange to yourself and not be judged by a single a person.
* Christmas markets The acceptable way to stuff your face with hot dogs and get drunk on mulled wine, while buying chocolate-coated nuts for the family.
Once we’ve welcomed the holiday season properly, we're constantly encouraged to get into the Spirit of the Season. This phrase is most heavily tied to Christmas in particular, but it would be hard to deny that similar themes aren't attached to other December holidays. In general, we're encouraged to be joyful, charitable, generous, kind, and forgiving—which are all behaviors that run counter to our inclined responses to the stresses caused by holiday shopping, holiday travel, and general holiday interactions. Where does the idea of Christmas spirit come from and why does it hinge so much on behavior?
The message of Christmas spirit is derived from a few general experiences. The first is an actual specter. In the seasonal classic A Christmas Carol Ebenezer Scrooge is confronted by several apparitions who force him to confront his miserly ways and open his heart. If there is anyone who does not embody the alleged Christmas spirit, it is truly Scrooge.
